Today, they make up the fourth-largest migrant group in Australia and they are the fastest-growing group after Chinese-Australians. Still, while they represent only 1.9% of our national population, they have an education rate that is three times the national average, with 55% having at least a Bachelors degree and Hindu-Indians having a rate of 88% post-school qualifications. The Diwali celebrations in Melbourne (‘festival of light’) showcases the vibrant multiculturalism of Indian-Australians, with traditional and contemporary music as well as Chinese and Latin American fusion dances.
